Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Shelter Assault Dies

The female victim who was stabbed to her neck area in an unprovoked attack near a bus shelter in Birmingham has passed away, police have confirmed.

The deceased woman, aged 34 years, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 21:00 GMT on Friday, according to police statements.

The suspect, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges for the attack.

He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.

Police Response

The force said officers would be in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the victim's relatives.

Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen Mr Rafael, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes and rucksack.

Attack Site Details

The knife attack occurred outside Bullring retail complex, across from the main entrance of New Street railway station.

Police said they were treating it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted the emergency response after completing her shift around 10 PM Friday night.

She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances around 9 PM.

"A lot of my colleagues take public transport, take the tram... our security is compromised essentially, in the downtown area."

Ashley Birks, 25, from Stoke-on-Trent, mentioned visiting the city quite frequently visiting his partner resident there, expressing concern about what had happened.

"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... considering a totally random act occurred, you know, it's terrible."
