Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin Leaves Ireland's Presidential Election With Immediate Effect
Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin has announced he is pulling out from the race for Ireland's head of state immediately.
He was set to be among three contenders competing for Ireland's head of state, beside TD Catherine Connolly and Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys.
However, on Sunday evening he announced through a declaration that he "erred which did not align with his character and his personal standards."
"Considering all these factors, I've chosen to withdraw from the presidential election contest immediately and go back to my family," he declared in his announcement.
Further updates expected.
