Ibrox side sack Russell Martin after 17 matches.

Rangers have terminated Russell Martin's contract as head coach following 17 matches, as the club declared "although transition phases demand patience, performances fell short of targets".

The 39-year-old's final game was the 1-1 draw at Falkirk on Sunday, after which he required a police escort from the venue after fans tried to block the team bus from departing.

Martin had faced mounting criticism and opposition from Ibrox supporters following an underwhelming beginning to the season's commencement.

The club waited until the end of September to secure their first Scottish Premiership victory, while the team suffered a humiliating 9-1 aggregate defeat from Club Brugge in European playoff matches during August.

Officials highlighted that transition periods require patience, however performances must meet expectations.

  • Russell Martin's tenure lasted 17 matches
  • Final match resulted in 1-1 draw

Looking Ahead

The process starts for a fresh manager to guide the Ibrox club onward as the club aims to rebuild their term and regain winning ways.
