The national team brought an end to the reigning champions the Proteas' unbeaten run by completing a 93-run victory in an thrilling and competitive first Test in the city of Lahore.

South Africa, whose 10-Test winning streak in the longest format culminated in victory over Australia in the WTC final in June, were bowled out for 183 chasing 277.

Having resumed on 51 for two, they lost century-maker De Zorzi lbw to left-arm quick Afridi to the third delivery of the day to shift the tightly balanced chase in the home team's favour.

Slow left-armer Noman, who secured 10-191 in the match, dismissed Tristan Stubbs for 2 and clean bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a rapid 54.

Off-spinner Sajid Khan also capitalized on significant spin to terminate opener Ryan Rickelton's innings - he lasted 145 balls for 45 - and Shaheen returned in the afternoon session to dismiss the lower order with a fine display of reverse swing.

He trapped Kyle Verreynne leg before for nineteen and bowled Subrayen and Kagiso Rabada to secure the win.

It was both sides' first match of the 2025-27 Test championship cycle and propels Pakistan directly into second place behind leaders the Australian team.

The win was founded on contributions of 93 by opener Imam and, crucially, number seven Agha which boosted them to three hundred and seventy-eight.

After that slow bowlers Noman Ali and Sajid took advantage of favourable home conditions, as they had in their Test series win over England the previous year, to sustain their lead.

The next and final Test begins on October 20.
