19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet failing to control a return after over two and a half hours.
